The first week of the NFL is here! Well, other than Thursday’s Super Bowl rematch between the Panthers and the Broncos. It’s a chance for every team to prove that their team is the most superior. That all the off-season moves and pre-season trainings has come to this. It’s clear who are the favourites in each division (maybe not the NFC East), but the gap between every team is closing. Who will come out on top in the first week of games? Here’s my predictions:
1) Buccaneers 27-14 Falcons
The ever-improving Bucs, led by former #1 pick Jameis Winston travels to the Georgia Dome, which used to be a tough place to play in. However, the struggles of the Falcons as of late, especially on defense will make an easy victory for Tampa Bay.
2) Vikings 17-14 Titans
I struggle seeing Shaun Hill getting many points for the Vikings offense, but I don’t see the new Titans rushing attack impressing against a stout Vikings defence.
3) Eagles 24-20 Browns
A lot of intrigue here as Carson Wentz gets his first start in Philly, while Robert Griffin III gets his first start for Cleveland.
4) Jets 31-17 Bengals
I imagine a high-scoring game for the Jets, who have the core of Fitzpatrick, Marshall and Decker back together, with Matt Forte added as well.
5) Saints 24-27 Raiders (OT)
The Saints at home is not what it used to be and with a young, talented Raiders side visiting, Oakland will leave New Orleans with a win in OT.
6) Chiefs 21-17 Chargers
The loss of Jamaal Charles only made the scoreline closer than what I think will happen.
7) Bills 31-27 Ravens
The Bills’ explosive offense returns, but the loss of many starters will allow the Ravens to make it close.
8) Texans 45-10 Bears
My first blowout of the week. The new revamped Texans’ offense led by Brock Osweiler will be strong, while their stout defence will prevent Chicago from scoring.
9) Packers 35-31 Jaguars
This will be an epic shootout between two strong offences. Interested in seeing how the new-look Jags defence holds against Aaron Rodgers.
10) Seahawks 34-19 Dolphins
Seahawks will be too strong in Seattle.
11) Giants 34-31 Cowboys
How will rookie duo Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliot fear against a stout Giants’ defensive line?
12) Colts 24-14 Lions
Andrew Luck begins his redemption season with a gutsy win over the Lions.
13) Cardinals 28-16 Patriots
I don’t see Jimmy Garoppolo leading the Pats to victory, especially against one of the top offences in the league.
14) Steelers 27-21 Redskins
Josh Norman vs Antonio Brown? Yes please.
15) 49ers 13-16 Rams
Not the best way to end the week. But I got two words for ya: Todd Gurley.
