WWE Survivor Series 2016 Predictions

The 30th installment of Survivor Series, one of the WWE’s big four pay-per-views, comes to us this week and it’s a unique show with no heavyweight title defenses. Instead, the show is headlined by the ‘fantasy warfare’ match-up between Goldberg and Brock Lesnar, a re-match 12 years in the making. The other major theme of the event is ‘brand supremacy’ with Raw and Smackdown Live putting their best male, female and tag team competitors against each other in showdowns which could have huge implications for both brands. WWE writer Sam V joins me in making another round of predictions for Survivor Series:

EF: Elijah Fa’afiu

SV: Sam Verlinden

1) The Brian Kendrick (c) vs Kalisto for the WWE Crusierweight Championship; if Kalisto wins, the title and the crusierweight division will transfer to SmackDown

EF: With the new 205 Live show exclusively for the crusierweights airing on Tuesdays straight after SmackDown Live, it would make sense to move the crusierweights to the blue brand. The move would also help Kalisto’s career, as at the start of the year he was the United States Champion and over the last few months following the draft, was either injured or being attacked by Baron Corbin. The crusierweights moving to SD Live would allow the masked man to thrive in his element. I’ve liked Kendrick as Crusierweight champ and would prefer him not to drop the belt, so instead WWE could allow Kalisto to win by DQ or countout, moving the division to SD Live, but keeping the strap on TBK.

SV: Yeah so not keen on Kendrick dropping the strap. Actually been enjoying his work recently so yeah, some say he should win.

2) The Miz (c) (w/ Maryse) vs Sami Zayn for the WWE Intercontinental Championship; if Zayn wins the title will transfer to Raw

EF: I’m gutted we don’t get to see Ziggler vs Zayn, but it doesn’t mean Miz vs Zayn won’t be bad either. It wouldn’t make sense having the Intercontinental Championship move to Raw, as SD Live would be left with the World Championship as it’s only major singles title. I also don’t like the idea of Miz beating Ziggler on SD just for him to lose the title straight away to Zayn. Another lengthy IC title reign for Miz is what’s needed as he’s doing the best work of his career to date. In an alternate universe, Miz would lose to Zayn, only for Zayn to reveal he’s jumped ship to SD, keeping the belt on the blue brand and Daniel Bryan getting his revenge on Miz by trading him to Raw. Idk, maybe not.

SV: When Ziggler’s not on the card already, you can be sure he’ll find a way to involve himself. I see him perhaps costing Zayn a victory (accidentally maybe?) and the Miz retaining, allowing the spicy Ziggles/Miz feud to continue chaaahooo.

3) TEAM RAW (The New Day, Sheamus & Cesaro, Gallows & Anderson, Enzo & Cass and The Shining Stars) vs TEAM SMACKDOWN (Slater & Rhyno, The Hype Bros, American Alpha, The Usos and Breezango) in a 10-on-10 traditional Survivor Series tag team elimination match.

EF: In one of the first real toss-ups of the night, I think ultimately Raw will come out on top 2-1 out of all the traditional Survivor Series elimination matches. On paper, Raw’s team blow SD Live’s team out of the water. But I’m picking Team SD to grab the upset, with American Alpha being the sole survivors. I imagine a situation where it’s down to New Day/Gallows & Anderson against American Alpha, with The Club costing New Day on purpose, leaving them one-on-one (or two-on-two) with American Alpha and Alpha coming out on top, establishing themselves as a huge tag team on the big stage.

SV: So yeah Team Raw will win (their team just has more stars yeah)

4) TEAM RAW (Charlotte, Bayley, Nia Jax, Alicia Fox and Sasha Banks)(w/ Dana Brooke) vs TEAM SMACKDOWN (Nikki Bella, Becky Lynch, Alexa Bliss, Carmella and Naomi) (w/ Natalya) in a traditional Survivor Series elimination match

EF: Another toss-up here where on paper, Raw’s team looks better thanks to having both Charlotte and Sasha on their side. However, in a shock, I don’t have either women surviving in the match. Instead, I have Bayley being the sole survivor. I think she’s lost too much momentum as of late and it will help spark a feud between Charlotte and Bayley over the women’s title, since Charlotte needs to defend against someone not named Sasha Banks.

SV: Again this is a case of the Raw stars outperforming their SD counterparts.

5) TEAM RAW (Kevin Owens, Chris Jericho, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman) vs TEAM SMACKDOWN (AJ Styles, Dean Ambrose, Bray Wyatt, Randy Orton and Shane McMahon) in a traditional Survivor Series elimination match

EF: With the scores locked at one apiece, I have Raw ultimately claiming brand supremacy with a win over their SD counterparts. Firstly, I can’t take Team Smackdown seriously with Shane McMahon. Baron Corbin would’ve been perfect (if it wasn’t for that “injury”), or I would’ve considered Luke Harper or Dolph now that he’s lost the IC title. My picks for the sole survivors are Reigns and Rollins. As much as I like the work of Braun Strowman, I think he’ll get DQ’d or counted out. I see a two-on-two situation with Reigns/Rollins vs Ambrose/Styles, with James Ellsworth costing Ambrose a fall and Styles laughing in his face, leading to a mini-Shield reunion where they powerbomb AJ through an announce table, giving Raw the win. But hey, one can dream right?

SV: I think SD Live needs to be thrown some sort of compensation bone. All signals seem to point at Raw taking this one- from Taker’s warning etc. However SD need something, so I think this will be the upset. I imagine a 3 vs 1 scenario coming to fruition with Seth Rollins being the last surviving member of Raw perhaps and coming up tragically short? Either way, SD takes this one.

6) Brock Lesnar (w/ Paul Heyman) vs Goldberg

EF: There’s great nostalgia heading into this match, with fans including myself still buzzing from the fact that Goldberg is back in a WWE ring. Goldberg is the only guy who has Brock’s number and after Survivor Series, I think that statement remains the same. My heart says Goldberg, but my head says Lesnar and this time I’m going with my heart. The fact that they’ve brought up Goldberg’s family in this feud leads me to believe that Goldberg will defend the honour of his family and come out on top. My concern is whether the match will live up to the hype. It’s Goldberg’s first match since 2004, while Brock isn’t really one to carry a wresting match on his own. I’m also concerned that if this is the last match, Lesnar winning would be another sour ending to a PPV just like Summerslam, which is why I have Goldberg winning and producing an awesome WWE moment where he celebrates with his wife and son. I’d be surprised if the match went over 15 minutes due to the styles of both men. I expect an explosive brawl between the two men, with Goldberg going 2-0 up on Brock.

SV: Am loving the nostalgia of this match. I imagine this match will go on for 15-20 minutes allowing both parties to give and receive adequate beatings. No doubt the atmosphere and crowd will be vibing more than social media after Don’s victory… mmm yea. I’d love for Goldberg to take a W here, but sadly I just can’t see it happening. I see him putting up one heck of a scrap, but going down to a non one-off match employee.
