WWE Backlash 2017 Predictions

SmackDown Live hosts WWE Backlash, which sees the main roster debut of ‘The King of Strong Style’ Shinsuke Nakamura, a potential match of the year candidate in Kevin Owens vs AJ Styles and a WWE Championship match involving Jinder Mahal. The event has created a lot of intrigue as to whether WWE will pull the trigger and crown their first WWE World Champion of Indian descent. Who will leave Backlash victorious?

1) Tye Dillinger vs Aiden English

The Perfect Ten hasn’t been set up to do much ever since his legitimate main roster debut. Dillinger’s been involved in a number of contests with English already, coming out on top each time and nothing suggests that this will change.

2) Luke Harper vs Erick Rowan

The former Wyatt Family members clash in a match-up that doesn’t seem to intrigue many, but the idea of Rowan potentially creating his own stable with his evil clown gimmick has potential on its own. However, Harper deserves to get even with Rowan, especially after the year he’s had so far. From getting involved in a main event rivalry at the start of the year to a mid-card level battle, Harper needs to get back on track.

3) Baron Corbin vs Sami Zayn

As much as Sami deserves a big win on PPV, it’s easy to see that Corbin is being molded into the top heel role on SmackDown Live. A win here would continue to build The Lone Wolf up for a possible WWE Championship opportunity.

4) Shinsuke Nakamura vs Dolph Ziggler

It’s Nakamura. Oh, and The Artist is a terrible nickname.

5) Naomi, Charlotte and Becky Lynch vs The Welcoming Committee (Natalya, Carmella and Tamina) w/ James Ellsworth in a Six-Women Tag Team Match

I’m not convinced that anyone in The Welcoming Committee is on the same level as Naomi, Charlotte or Becky Lynch, so a win here seems fitting for TWC. I sense a possible heel turn from Charlotte or Becky Lynch which will give TWC a much-needed victory.

6) Kevin Owens (c) vs AJ Styles for the WWE United States Championship

This has the makings of a potential match of the night, or even year, candidate. The match itself should bring some prestige back to the United States Championship and if KO is to continue doing his Face of America gimmick, then it would be wrong if it were to end here at Backlash.

7) The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) (c) vs Breezango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango) for the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships

Breezango has lowkey been the funniest thing going in the WWE and a win here would be well-deserving for two hard-working superstars in Breeze and Fandango. However, The Usos have also been one of the top acts on the blue brand and the idea of a rivalry between The Usos and The New Day over the tag titles should get fans excited.

8) Randy Orton (c) vs Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship

Oh man, I really want Jinder to win the WWE Championship. He’s been the top heel in the WWE over the past month and a win would not only shock the WWE world, but create a boom in WWE’s popularity in South East Asia. Unfortunately, it looks as though Orton will continue what seems to be one of the worst WWE Championship reigns in history. If Mahal’s not gonna get the job done at Backlash, hopefully Rusev can win the title at Money In The Bank.
